William (Mitch) Wolfe-incoming student outreach
Mitch was born and raised outside Nashville, Tennessee, where he developed a passion for both modern and ancient landscapes. He pursued geologic studies at the University of the South (Sewanee, TN), earning a BS in Geology and a Certificate in Watershed Science. Mitch was a key leader in the Sewanee Outing Program, guiding a variety of outdoor activities such as rock climbing, vertical caving, biking, and trail running. These experiences fueled his passion for the natural world and sparked his academic interest in geology.
After graduating from the University of the South in 2023, Mitch interned with EOG Resources for two months in Midland, TX, and six months in Oklahoma City, OK, taking a few months in between to backpack in New Zealand. In August 2024, Mitch moved to Golden, CO, where he is now a PhD candidate at the Colorado School of Mines, working on Late Cretaceous to Early Eocene fossil localities in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia in collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History, under the advisement of Dr. Eric Roberts. Mitch currently serves as the President of the Colorado School of Mines AAPG Student Chapter and looks forward to engaging more with the Rocky Mountain geology community.
